Gr 2-4-This book presents itself as a manual to understand the different types of families that exist in this world, including the animals that form part of our families. The author mentions different types of people that are present in kids' lives like the aunt-doctor who can diagnose whatever they are feeling. Most of the book focuses on types of families, like a welcoming family, a distant family, and a loud family. The book presents various kinds of dynamics in a creative way and ends with everyone at the table. Although the text mentions diversity within the family makeup, over 90 percent of the characters have a peachy-white skin tone. The most diversity comes in different hair color and seems to be mostly of European descent. The illustrations are brightly colored and add to the silly tone. This blend of fiction and nonfiction will be confusing for readers. There were vocabulary terms like congeners for relatives instead of the commonly used term parientes. VERDICT Not recommended-Lissette Perez-Hernandez
