In the fourth installment in the "Heartland Heroes" series (after Kentucky Crime Ring), Gina Ricci is four months pregnant and on the run from her abusive ex-boyfriend. When her landlord is murdered, Gina suspects her ex and turns to private investigator Cruz Winchester for help. There's an intense but low-simmering attraction between the two from the start, and smart dialogue between them as well. The side characters nicely fill out the story. VERDICT While the intrigue here lies more in the "how to catch 'em" storyline than the more traditional "whodunnit," it's a worthy addition to any Harlequin collection and a highlight for the month.
