The propulsive new John Adderley case and follow-up to the award-winning, international bestselling Scandi noir thriller The Bucket List
Alicia Bjelke has always been "the other sister." She is the coding genius behind a wildly successful dating app she started with her sister, Stella, but because Alicia's face is disfigured, she's created a life in the background while beautiful Stella is
the face of the company. When Stella is found dead, Alicia's life changes utterly as she becomes the focus of the investigation.
The case is assigned to former FBI agent John Adderley, living in Sweden in witness protection and battling demons from his past life. As John investigates the case, he learns that Alicia and Stella have always had a difficult relationship. The
deeper John delves into the sisters' past, the clearer it becomes that Stella's murder may be just one piece in the puzzle of a larger crime. As John follows the trail, the old life he thought he left behind in the States begins to catch up with him.
With a deft mix of masterful suspense and psychological depth, authors Peter Mohlin and Peter Nyström deliver a heart-pounding new entry to the John Adderley series. As with The Bucket List, Mohlin & Nyström's award-winning
debut, The Other Sister is an ambitious Scandinavian crime thriller that is compelling, richly textured, and gripping from start to finish.

Mohlin and Nyström’s stellar sequel to 2021’s The Bucket List more than delivers on the first book’s promise. Former FBI agent John Adderley, the son of an American father and a Swedish mother, had lived in Sweden until he was 12; in the previous book, he moved there in 2019 after being wounded in a drug bust gone wrong. Under an alias “created by the Swedish authorities on behalf of the FBI’s witness protection program,” he’s become a respected member of the Karlstad CID. When John’s former partner from the FBI, Trevor, whom he thought dead, surfaces in Karlstad, he fears that he’s been betrayed and is being set up for assassination. John’s efforts to discover Trevor’s true motives in reconnecting coincide with his assignment to the high-profile murder of a tech executive who designed an innovative dating app. This nail-biter doesn’t let John off the hook for some hard choices he’s forced to make as the action builds to a jaw-dropping climax. Readers will be counting the days to see where these gifted writers take their lead next. Agent: Sara Tiala, Nordin Agency (Sweden).

Narrator Dion Graham returns to portray former FBI agent John Adderley, who has a new identity as a Swedish police detective. Listeners will be filled with dread as Adderley's former life as an undercover agent in Baltimore catches up with him in Sweden. Adding to the police procedural's complexity is a second storyline involving Alicia Bjelke, whose beautiful celebrity sister, Stella, is found murdered. The chapters alternate between the two stories, which are then brought together by Adderley as he becomes the primary investigator of the sister's murder. Graham smoothly moves from one point of view to the other, expertly voicing men and women of varying nationalities, ages, and temperaments. While the violence is intense and the story stretches credulity at key points, Graham's narration is captivating. E.Q. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine

Mohlin and Nystrm's sequel to The Bucket List picks up where the first book left off, with former FBI agent John Adderley having been forced to go into witness protection in Sweden after testifying against a Nigerian drug lord. Now in Sweden as a member of the Karlstad CID, John (the son of an American father and a Swedish mother) is assigned to investigate the case of a young entrepreneur who is found dead in a warehouse. The victim is Stella Bielke, CEO of a company that runs a popular dating app; her surviving sister Alicia, always in Stella's shadow, is the technical expert behind the app. A bloody handprint at the murder scene puts John on the trail of a possible killer, but he is forced to change course when his suspect is found dead. While the intertwined stories in this complex and somewhat confusing narrative can be difficult to follow, Dion Graham's propulsive narration keeps the momentum going. Listeners may not be entirely convinced by the characters' motivations, but they will be captivated by Graham's skillful switches between different points of view and storylines. VERDICT Recommend for thriller readers and fans of Scandi crime writers Lars Kepler and Jussi Adler-Olsen.--Joanna M. Burkhardt
